On this day (April 18) in 1984, Liverpool legend Ian Rush scored his 100th goal for the club in his 166th appearance.

The prolific striker netted the equaliser for Joe Fagan’s side in the second half at Filbert Street, as top of the table Liverpool were forced to come from behind on two occasions to draw the match 3-3

Rush was the standout player on the day, in what was a star-studded lineup containing the likes of Bruce Grobbelaar, Graeme Souness and Kenny Dalglish – along with many others.

Notably, one of Leicester’s goalscorers was long-time BBC Match of the Day host, Gary Linekar.

But this day was all about Liverpool’s 73-cap Welsh ace, who despite swapping Merseyside for Turin in a switch to Juventus for two years, went on to score a remarkable 336 goals for the Anfield club in 648 appearances.

Still a familiar and popular face at the club today, Rush also boasts a trophy haul any football club would be proud of, including five top-flight titles and two European Cups.

Liverpool went on to lift the 1983/84 First Division title, three points clear of runners-up Southampton – Rush finished the season as top scorer with 32 strikes
