The past few seasons has seen great success for Liverpool Football club.

Since Jurgen Klopp’s appointment in 2016 the club has gone on to end their league title drought of 30 years.

Not only that but the season before the club managed to add their seventh Champions League title to the cabinet.

However, that success did not come without its trials and tribulations, with the Reds missing out on Champions League glory the season prior.

The 2018 Champions League final is remembered for many things, but for former Red Adam Lallana, it was a particularly tough occasion.

The English midfielder had recently returned from injury but found himself thrust onto the pitch after just half an hour.

Star forward Mohamed Salah suffered a dislocated shoulder after a rough challenge from Real defender Sergio Ramos.

This saw Lallana come on in his place, and the then 30-year-old said recently opened up about what was going through his head on Sky Sports’ Super 6 Podcast…

It is a tough watch as you can see the emotion in Lallana’s face when talking about the difficulty of coming on.

The have to fill the boots of Salah in a game such as that is a big ask for any player.

However, having to do it when you’ve not long come back from an injury is an even bigger ask at hand.

Lallana’s career at Liverpool is remembered for many fine moments and he should take comfort in knowing that his performance in that final has no mark on that.

It was a challenge for the whole squad up against one of the great Real Madrid teams, luckily for the club and Lallana – the following year saw them finally get their hands once again on that coveted trophy.
