Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, as per a report from the Mail via SportsMole.

The 27-year-old is about to enter the final year of his contract at Bayern and if he and the club can’t agree terms on an extension, then there’s a very good chance that he’ll be sold this summer.

The Austrian international has found himself playing as both a left-back and a centre-back for Bayern this season as the German giants have stormed to another Bundesliga title win, but as it stands, he’s yet to put pen-to-paper on a new contract, so his future at the club is in doubt.

According to the report, both Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly showing an interest in Alaba, but Bayern are still hopeful of tying him down to a new contract.

If (and it’s a big if) Liverpool have money to spend this summer then a move for Alaba might be a very wise transfer for the Reds.

Liverpool look like they need another option at left-back to ease the burden on Andy Robertson and Alaba’s versatility would allow him to play in that position and in a number of different roles if needed.

Given his quality and the above-mentioned versatility, the Austrian could be a very good signing, if The Reds do decide to make a move for him
