It was a week full of dramatic comebacks for Liverpool, as they continue to provide incredible entertainment value.
First, Jurgen Klopp named a young starting lineup against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. They trailed 3-1, 4-2 and then 5-4, before Divock Origi forced a penalty shootout with a 95th-minute equalizer.
Caoimhin Kelleher saved Dani Ceballos’ penalty and Curtis Jones secured the win with Liverpool fifth and final spot-kick.
Not to be outdone, a far more experienced team was reinstated for a tough match with Aston Villa, who were leading 1-0 for 87 minutes.
The Reds forced another comeback, though, despite the best efforts of VAR.
Sadio Mane set up Andy Robertson for the equaliser and then headed home the winner in the 95th minute.
As the season progresses, we will continue to work out who sits in the top five of our Power Rankings, determining who Liverpool’s most influential and consistent individuals are.
Here’s who tops the pile after Gameweek 11…
5 - Roberto Firmino
Last Week: 4
The Brazilian scored a legitimate goal that VAR decided to rule out at Villa – the less said about that the better.
Although goalless this week, and for the whole month of October in the Premier League, Firmino holds onto his top-five spot with his tireless effort and four assists in the Champions League.
Compatriot Fabinho is breathing down his neck, though.
4 - Andy Robertson
Last Week: 5
“Goals are the new assist” was the caption on Robertson’s Instagram after the Villa win.
The Scot once again showed energy and desire far superior to any other player on the field at Villa Park, scoring the equaliser.
How many other left-backs in the league are heading in goals from the opponent’s six-yard box?
3 - Mohamed Salah
Last Week: 2
Salah was on the bench for the final 25 minutes of the Villa victory, after failing to hit top gear.
The Egyptian has 12 goal involvements in 15 games this season, however, which is more than enough to retain a top-five spot.
2 - Trent Alexander-Arnold
Last Week: 3
Over the last month, Alexander-Arnold has become Klopp’s most trusted deep-lying playmaker.
He is a constant threat down the right flank, either whipping in balls from deep, getting to the byline or firing pinpoint passes to Roberston.
That’s without mentioning his corners, which supplied Mane with the last-gasp winner against Villa.
1 - Sadio Mane
Last Week: 1
The Senegalese winger has consolidated his spot at the top of the Power Rankings for a third straight week.
He provided the cross for Robertson’s equaliser, then earned Liverpool all three points with a deft flick of the head.
15 games played this year and Mane has 10 goals and five assists. That’s not including winning penalties against Leicester and Spurs.
Unquestionable Liverpool’s best player this season.
