Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson has tipped Liverpool to enter the market for a central midfielder.
This comes after heavily linked summer target Yves Bissouma admitted that it was a ‘dream’ to one day play UEFA Champions League football.
The Brighton & Hove Albion ace has made a strong start to the new season and could once again be the subject of major speculation when the transfer window reopens.
Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson believes that the Reds should prioritise a different domestic-based star.
I think (Youri) Tielemans would be a better option for Liverpool than Bissouma. Does Bissouma fit the bill for Klopp? I’m not so sure. They haven’t got a lot of money to spend, we saw that in the transfer window just gone. (Gini) Wijnaldum played such a big part for them last season so naturally he will be missed. They are light in that area now so I do expect them to bring in another body in that position whether it be in January or next summer. It will be interesting to to see if Liverpool make moves in January.
Youri Tielemans was another linked with an Anfield switch during the summer before the Belgian remained at Leicester City – where he too is considering his options following a recent interview.
Despite the apparent lack of strength in depth, Liverpool have made an unbeaten start to the 2021/22 campaign, only dropping points in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Anfield.

Whilst the non-signing of a Gini Wijnaldum replacement did raise eyebrows, the opening weeks of the new season have gone a long way to showing why Jurgen Klopp was relaxed about the situation.
Albeit stung by injuries to Harvey Elliott and Thiago more recently, the Reds still boast Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones as midfield options.
That depth on paper should be enough to see out the season, however, an injury or two before the mid-season window could see Klopp forced into the market.
As for the preferred option, both stars have their individual qualities, although Bissouma is a midfielder more in the same ilk as Wjnaldum whilst Bissouma poses a more attacking threat.
