Liverpool striker Divock Origi was once again the man of the moment as a heavily rotated Jurgen Klopp side overcame AC Milan in the San Siro.

Despite going behind in the game the Reds always seemed to have the upper hand in terms of quality and a Mohamed Salah equaliser soon regained parity.

In the second half, it was that man Origi who expertly guided a powerful header beyond Mike Maignan to secure a 100 per cent winning record in UEFA Champions League Group B.

Speaking on BT Sport after the match, two ex-Liverpool frontmen Peter Crouch and Michael Owen were discussing the Belgian 26-year-old.

Fantastic header too, neck muscles, the power and the angle it arrives at, it was a tremendous finish. It is difficult to keep yourself focused, he could have moved to a mid table club but he is playing at Liverpool on the biggest stage.

Owen responded in kind by suggesting the enigmatic ace still has a role to play on Merseyside despite being underneath the quality required.

He’s not anywhere near the four players: Firmino, Jota, Mane and Salah. He’s a level below for me. But when you’re an impact player like he is, then it doesn’t necessarily matter. Now he’s going to get a chance to obviously start a few games in January when the Africa Cup of Nations starts.

So far this season Origi has scored five and provided two assists in 10 appearances across all competitions.

Despite seemingly being on the brink of an Anfield exit for some time, the Belgian continues to remain a Red and in truth, this season continues to deliver the goods.

More often than not able to impact results in a positive manner, Klopp will be reliant on Origi to fill part of the void left behind by Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in January.

Out of contract at the end of the season, more performances such as last night and the club may be looking to tie down the £10.8million valued man beyond next summer.
