It was a first campaign of highs and lows for Diogo Jota at Anfield as a flying start to his Liverpool career was halted by injury.

With a fresh season underway and back to full fitness, the Reds forward is already showing he could be the joker in the pack for manager Jurgen Klopp this term.

Injury Stalled Impressive Start

There was plenty of expectation and pressure on the shoulders of Jota on his high-profile arrival on Merseyside from fellow Premier League outfit Wolves. He joined a team with a formidable strike force, who helped to deliver a first Premier League title to the club. With the addition of Jota in 2020 and defender Ibrahima Konaté in 2021, Liverpool are priced at odds of 4/1 in the football bets from Space Casino to win the Premier League this season.

The Reds forked out over £40 million last year to sign the Portuguese international. Jota showed he was not to be overwhelmed by the limelight and scored on his league debut for the Reds in a 3-1 victory over Arsenal.

The goals just kept on coming for the former Porto star, as he went on to impress both domestically and with the Reds in the Champions League. A hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Serie A outfit Atalanta saw Jota really announce himself on the big stage with his new employers. Jota became the first-ever Liverpool player to find the back of the net in each of his first four home games in the Premier League, but the flying start was brought to a shuddering halt after a leg injury against Midtjylland in December.

It was certainly a blow for the player and for Klopp, who had already had to deal with long-term injuries to the likes of defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. After three months on the sidelines, Jota was to return before the end of the season, and the Reds star has once again hit the ground running for the new campaign.

Stellar Season on the Cards For Jota

Goals in his first two Premier League games of the 2021-22 campaign saw Jota impress once again for the Merseysiders. The 24-year-old found the back of the net against Norwich City and Burnley to help the Reds make a positive start to the season. It seems Jota has once again moved above fellow forward Roberto Firmino in the pecking order at Anfield, although Klopp would never come out and say it. To have the option of either player can only be a good thing for the German tactician, who will of course have to deal with injuries and dips in form through another long campaign.

Jota has already shown this season that his energy and ability, both in the air and with the ball at his feet, will cause defenders all sorts of problems. Not the tallest of forwards, Jota’s clever positioning and timing of runs mean he can create chances seemingly out of nothing. With top deliveries into the box expected from the likes of Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jota could rack up an impressive goal tally this season if he can remain fit.

With the Liverpool fans backing him from the stands at Anfield, supporters have been treated to some standout moments from Jota, and the best might well be yet to come.
