On this day (23rd April) in 1992, local lad Robbie Fowler signed his first professional contract with Liverpool.

The then 17-year-old joined the club’s U18 academy team, but after just one season was promoted to the first-team.

Fowler enjoyed an illustrious career with the club, eve picking up the nickname “God” along the way.

Liverpool news account Anfield Watch tweeted in celebration of the anniversary, detailing Fowler’s career at Liverpool…

As you can see, Fowler enjoyed a fantastic 9 years with his boyhood club.

To have been able to score 183 goals with 49 assists in just 369 appearances is a very good rate for goal involvement.

Not only that but winning two Young player of the Year awards is a fantastic achievement, with Fowler enjoying his best football at the club.

Soon, the striker would leave the club to join Leeds in 2001 after winning the FA Cup, UEFA Cup, and European Super Cup.

This final season with the club marked a real success for his time at Liverpool.

Winning the treble before leaving really was a fantastic send off for everything he did for the club.

Later on in his career, Fowler would make his return to but things never quite worked out the same.

However, Fowler’s career will always be remembered as the teenage sensation that lit up Merseyside in the 90’s.
