Thiago misses Liverpool training again ahead of Man City clash

Thiago looks increasingly likely to miss Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Manchester City this weekend.

The Spaniard hasn’t featured since the 2-2 draw with Everton last month, when he was on the receiving end of an awful tackle by Richarlison.

The hope has been that Thaigo would be available for Sunday’s crucial trip to City, but the Liverpool Echo‘s Matt Addison confirmed on Twitter that he missed training on Thursday, suggesting he will be out once again.

The 29-year-old was absent from all of the training photos, with time ticking away before the game takes place.

Having Thiago available would be a big boost for Liverpool, but as has been the case for the last five matches, they will have to battle on without him.

That means Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum will likely be joined by one other midfielder, assuming Jurgen Klopp goes with a 4-3-3 formation.

Curtis Jones is probably too inexperienced to start a game of such magnitude, while James Milner has looked a little on the ageing side so far this season, also not starting in the league.

Naby Keita is, therefore, the logical option to accompany Henderson and Wijnaldum, although Guinean only returned himself against Atalanta, coming on as a late substitute.

Klopp is expected to give an update on Thiago’s fitness in his press conference on Friday.
