Liverpool are reportedly ‘exploring options’ to strengthen the midfield department ahead of next summer.

One of the leading contenders is believed to be AS Monaco youngster Aurelien Tchouameni

The 21-year-old is amongst the hottest properties in Europe and looks almost certain to move on at the end of the current campaign.

Having allowed Gini Wijnaldum to leave the club as a free agent at the start of the season, the Reds have been left somewhat short of options at times.

According to a report from journalist David Ornstein for The Athletic, as cited by 𝘼𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 on Twitter, the Anfield club are eyeing up targets.

Liverpool are also thought to be exploring options to strengthen in central midfield. One of the candidates is Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, although among those also keen on the 21-year-old France international are Manchester United and therefore if Liverpool choose to take their interest further, the battle for his services is likely to be intense.

Previously a report from Spanish newspaper Marca has claimed Monaco will demand £50.1million for the seven-cap France starlet.

This season Tchouameni – hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by Paul Pogba – has earned an impressive 7.22 average Sofascore rating from 18 Ligue 1 outings.

Valued at £36million and under contract in France until 2024 (Transfermarkt), signing the Bordeaux academy graduate for the mooted £50.1million fee would be a bargain price.

Predominantly a defensive-minded midfielder, Tchouameni would provide sufficient cover for Fabinho as well as being able to play in a more conventional role.

Boasting a range of impressive attributes, the young Frenchman has all the potential to be a top performer at the elite level for many years to come and Liverpool should be at the front of the queue.
