Andy Robertson has claimed Liverpool’s 5-0 win away to Atalanta was the “perfect European night”.

The Reds were sensational in the Champions League on Tuesday, producing one of their best European performances under Jurgen Klopp. In-form Diogo Jota struck twice before half-time, before Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane killed the game off shortly after the interval.

Jota completed his hat-trick to complete the scoring as Liverpool maintained their 100 percent record in Group D after three matches.

Taking to Twitter after the match, Roberson was clearly in buoyant spirits, hailing the team’s performance:

Liverpool haven’t been firing on all cylinders of late, but this was a masterclass, showing why they remain arguably the best team in Europe.

That’s also now five wins out of five without Virgil van Dijk in the side, and Thiago for that matter, which speaks volumes about the quality in the squad.

So many were desperate to write off Liverpool’s chances of silverware when Van Dijk got injured, but the current signs are positive.

Confidence will be flowing as the Reds prepare to face Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday – another convincing win there would really make people sit up and take notice.
