Salah draws level with Gerrard’s Champions League record for Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has drawn level with Steven Gerrard on Champions League goals, becoming Liverpool’s joint-top scorer in the competition.

Salah was superb in the Reds’ 5-0 thrashing of Atalanta on Tuesday, scoring brilliantly to make it 3-0 early in the second half.

It was the ninth goal of an already impressive season for the 28-year-old, who looks in top form at the moment.

There was further significance to Salah’s deadly strike, however, as he matched Gerrard’s record Champions League tally of 21 goals.

The European Cup also applies, meaning Salah and Gerrard are out in front of the greats of the distant past, too.

Supporters should never need reminding about how special Salah is, but occasionally he can be underrated.

Why that is remains a mystery, but when you see the records he constantly breaks, and the other feats he achieves, he should be universally regarded as an all-time Liverpool great.

It won’t be long at all before Salah is out in front on his own, becoming the Reds’ leading scorer in the history of Europe’s top club competition.

He is a remarkable footballer, with his record for Liverpool now standing at 103 goals in 164 appearances, not to mention 39 assists thrown in for good measure.
