Liverpool have won the Premier League this season and the Reds’ first-team is arguably stronger than ever, but with a lack of depth in the squad – and with a few outgoings confirmed as well, Jurgen Klopp may need to add a few new additions to help push his side to even further heights.
Timo Werner was a player heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer but the German opted for a transfer to Chelsea after the Reds did not make the move for him.
Numerous players are often linked with a move to Anfield and many players would likely jump at the chance to play for the new champions of England.
Questions have been raised as to whether Liverpool will make any big moves when the transfer window opens, but if they do decide to dip into the market, here are five players who I think the Reds should look to sign.
4) Thiago Alcântara
The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks.
The deep-lying playmaker has been ever-present this season for Bayern Munich and has helped the German side win the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal with his three goals and two assists in 26 games.
There is no argument that he is a world-class player and he would improve the Liverpool side if the rumours are true and more importantly if he was able to stay fit.
3) Todd Cantwell
The Englishman has performed well for Norwich this season, getting six goals and two assists in 33 games in the Premier League.
Liverpool do not have many natural wingers in their squad and with Xherdan Shaqiri’s career at Anfield in question, Cantwell could be the perfect replacement.
The Canaries are very likely to go down this season so Liverpool could get a cut-price deal for Cantwell.
2) Victor Osimhen
Liverpool were heavily linked with German forward Timo Werner but, the move did not happen and he went to rivals Chelsea instead.
Nigerian forward Osimhen had a great season in Ligue 1 and could be the striker off the bench that the Reds need.
Osimhen finished the season with 13 goals and five assists in 27 games for Lille helping them to secure a fourth-place finish.
He could be a perfect replacement for one of the front three if they happened to get injured or rotated.
1) Boubacar Kamara
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have nailed down the two centre back positions but a solid back up is something Liverpool have craved at times.
Dejan Lovren is surely set to leave Liverpool and Joel Matip has had injury problems this season.
The 20-year-old has been ever-present for Marseille in Ligue 1 this season and has shown ability and composure beyond his years.
