Before the celebrations could commence, the champions had business to take care of on the field.

Despite having little left to play for aside from an additional excuse to celebrate as if it was needed, Liverpool almost reached their scintillating best at times during the win over Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp’s men took control of the early exchanges and duly went ahead when Guinean midfielder Naby Keita let fly from the edge of the box. The ball was past Kepa in the Chelsea net before he could get close to stopping it.

Trent Alexander-Arnold doubled the home team’s advantage with a pinpoint free-kick before Gini Wijnaldum volleyed home Liverpool’s third, the Reds seemingly finishing off their home campaign in emphatic style.

Oliver Giroud grabbed a first-half consolation goal for Frank Lampard’s side moments before the break.

Liverpool restored their three-goal cushion via a first Anfield league goal of the season for Roberto Firmino, whose header met a perfectly placed Alexander-Arnold cross.

The Chelsea fightback picked up pace when Christian Pulisic turned on the style, assisting one and scoring another to ensure a nervy finale for the Reds.

However, when the current champions of England, Europe, and the World countered with surgeon-like precision from a corner, it was left to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to wrap up the night’s scoring at the back post – to a backdrop of fireworks from the surrounding Anfield streets.

All that was left to do was dye the hair, put on some fancy sunglasses on and tie scarves in unusual places, before taking to the stage in the heart of The Kop to finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy.

Here’s how we rated the Reds in their final home game of the season.
