Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has hailed Liverpool striker Diogo Jota as ‘outstanding’.

The 25-year-old eventually opened the scoring for the Reds as Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the FA Cup fifth round with a 3-1 victory over Cardiff City.

Jota rose superbly to head home in the second half having squandered a golden opportunity to break the deadlock early on.

Speaking on ITV (broadcast on 6/2/2022; 14:00), Keane was full of praise for the Portuguese star’s aerial ability.

I think it’s because of his size, I think people do underestimate him. And I think Paul Scholes used to do the same, he used to get into these positions where people are going, ‘I think he’ll be okay’. Yet we’ve seen it over and over again, when he get his chances, he is outstanding in the air. It’s always great to see a great headed goal.

Jota earned a 7.60 Sofascore rating for a display containing one goal, one assist and three key passes.

The former Wolves man has now scored 15 times and provided three assists this season across all competitions.

There is no doubting teams taking the diminutive Jota for granted.

So preoccupied are opponents with dealing with the threat posed by giant figures such as Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, Jota can almost go unnoticed.

Time and time again the 22-cap Portugal star has proved his threat in the air but he continues to find the space to occupy.

Whilst Jota once again shone, it was the return of Harvey Elliott and the debut of Luis Diaz that stole the show at Anfield.

All in all, a pretty perfect day.
