Former Premier League defender Alan Hutton has backed Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott to become an ‘absolute superstar’ in the future.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder made a stunning return to action with a goal against Cardiff City following over five months out with a dislocated ankle.

Having starred whilst out on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season, Elliott had started three consecutive league matches for Jurgen Klopp’s side prior to the setback.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton tipped the talented teenager to rise to the very top.

It’s amazing. Your first game back, scoring in front of the Kop. That is what dreams are made of. I always knew he was a brilliant talent when he came through at Fulham. Then he got bought but he had to bide his time, he is still very young. I watched him at the start of the season, I think it was against Burnley and I was at the game. He was unbelievable, he was unplayable. Him and Trent (Alexander-Arnold) linked up so well, they were really great together. Then, obviously, he picked up the injury. It’s good to see him back. I’m pretty sure he will be an absolute superstar for them moving forward.

Elliott could be in line for more minutes as the Reds face Leicester City at Anfield tonight (Thursday, February 10).

Outstanding talent.

It’s clear to see by the reaction of Klopp in the wake of the injury and on the teen’s return just how highly Elliott is rated.

Whilst the manager will no doubt be patient with the comeback of the £13.5million valued star, following such an impactful return there will no doubt be a temptation to start the attacking midfielder immediately.
