Former Liverpool favourite Peter Crouch has admitted he has been left ‘staggered’ to see some pundits calling for the Reds to split up their heralded front three this summer.

The trio, who were assembled at various points by Jurgen Klopp and Brendan Rodgers before him, have played an integral part in bringing both the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League title to Anfield.

This season has been more of a struggle for the stars individually, although Mohamed Salah leads the scoring charts with 28 strikes in all competitions.

Both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are down on previous campaigns however, the former netting his first goal n 10 matches on Monday, whilst the Brazilian number nine has just six goals this season in 42 outings.

Despite all the goals, acclaim and glory, there have been calls from certain quarters to move on one or more of the fabled three this summer.

However, Crouch has questioned the logic in his column for the Daily Mail.

I wouldn’t sell any of them. Why would you even think of doing that unless one of them wanted to go? I understand Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have not hit the heights we have expected of them this season but that doesn’t mean their time is up. It staggers me that we live in a world where cancel culture is growing by the day.

Crouch went on to say should any of the stars leave they would almost certainly return to their ‘exhilarating’ best and Liverpool would be left rueing their decision.

The giant ex-striker is spot on here.

Were Liverpool to cash in on one of the trio this summer Jurgen Klopp would have an almost irreplaceable void given the levels they have reached in recent seasons.

That said, there’s no doubt more competition is needed, something that has been beneficial since Diogo Jota’s arrival.
