Liverpool are said to be ‘in the running’ to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
The 21-year-old is arguably the hottest property in European football and looks certain to be at the centre of a bidding war in the summer.
Despite the overwhelming levels of interest from around the continent, in particular from Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona, the Reds continue to be mentioned in dispatches.
Now, former Netherlands international Ruud Gullit has told German outlet Bild, as cited by Sport Witness on Twitter, that the Anfield club are in contention to make the deal happen.

I see him in England but I don’t think he goes to Manchester United. City would be good for him because of Pep Guardiola. But Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool would also be great. What Jürgen has done with this club is unbelievable. You just have to love him and he’s always hungry. That suits Haaland. In Spain, only Real is an option. These are the three clubs that will be in the running for Erling.
So far this season the 15-cap Norway superstar has scored 23 goals and provided six assists from 20 appearances in all competitions.
READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT
Valued at an eye-watering £135million and under contract in Dortmund until 2024 (Transfermarkt), Liverpool and any other suitors will be hoping the mooted £62.4million release clause is an option.
Whilst many Kopites may sneer at the suggestion of such expenditure under the current ownership model, the board have certainly backed Jurgen Klopp when it comes to potentially transformational transfers.
Already a phenomenal goalscorer and seemingly improving all the time, Haaland through the middle with the likes of Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz on either side is a truly frightening proposition.
