Roberto Firmino is the worst finisher in the Premier League since the start of the 2019/20 season according to xG, as per data from Understat.

The Brazilian was left out of Liverpool’s starting lineup on Tuesday night as the Reds thumped Atalanta 5-0 in the Champions League.

Firmino’s replacement Diogo Jota, scored a hat-trick, possibly enticing Jurgen Klopp to keep things the same at Manchester City on Sunday.

It has now been revealed that no player in the Premier League since the beginning of last season has been more wasteful in front of goal than Firmino, with Give Me Sport listing the 10 worst finishers.

His xG is +7.69, leaving him at the top of the list, while Jota actually ranks fourth, interestingly.

Goals are far from the main aspect of Firmino game – he drops deep, creates chances and works selflessly off the ball – but this does expose his lack of ruthlessness in the final third.

While Jota already has seven goals to his name for Liverpool, Firmino has found the net just once this season and only five times all year.

I still think Firmino will start against City, with Klopp showing faith in him, but there is big pressure on him to perform now.

Another poor showing – one which may potentially cost Liverpool in a huge game – would surely mean a longer spell out of the team is needed.

Should Jota start over Firmino against Man City?
