Liverpool’s pre-season continues later this evening as the Reds face off against Sevilla at Fenway Park in Boston.
Coming less than 48 hours after the 3-2 friendly loss to Borussia Dortmund in Indiana, Liverpool are expected to make wholesale changes to start the game against the club who infamously beat them in the Europa League final back in 2016.
With players still looking to get back to full fitness and with some youngsters looking to impress the manager, there’s still a fair bit to play for in Boston, despite it only being a friendly game.
Here’s the Liverpool XI that we think will start the game.
Simon Mignolet
Simon Mignolet is the only senior goalkeeper on the tour so he’s likely to play the entire 90 minutes once again.
Ki-Jana Hoever
Youngster Ki-Jana Hoever didn’t even come off the bench against Dortmund, which could be an indicator that he’s going to get a lot of minutes under his belt this evening.
Dejan Lovren
Dejan Lovren has a lot to prove if he wants to earn a place back in Klopp’s prefered starting XI.
Virgil van Dijk
Virgil van Dijk will likely start the game, but it’s unlikely he’ll play the entire 90 minutes.
Andrew Robertson
Andrew Robertson hasn’t featured too much in pre-season so far. We think he’ll be given 45 minutes at Fenway.
Jordan Henderson
We think the captain will start in his old ‘number six’ role to start the game.
Gini Wijnaldum
Gini Wijnaldum came on for the last 30 minutes or so of the Dortmund game. We expect him to start tonight.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Perhaps a little shock pick here. We think Alexander-Arnold will start the game in a three-man midfield.
Curtis Jones
Curtis Jones has looked lively in pre-season. We think he’ll start in a wide role this evening.
Ben Woodburn
Ben Woodburn has almost become a bit of a forgotten man at Liverpool but he’s still got a very bright future.
Rhian Brewster
The man of the moment! Rhian Brewster has scored in every pre-season friendly so far. He’ll be looking to add another goal this evening.
