Liverpool could be fast approaching a timely squad boost as Harvey Elliott continues on the road to recovery.

The 18-year-old has been a huge miss for the Reds ever since dislocating his ankle in the victory over Leeds United in September.

Elliott had made a bright start to the season having returned to Merseyside following an outstanding season-long loan spell at Blackburn Rovers.

Now it would appear that the teenager is nearing a return to fitness as he takes to the grass for the first time in two months.

The corresponding report from the club’s official website confirmed that Elliott completed exercises outside at the AXA Training Centre on the next step in his rehabilitation process.

Prior to the cruel setback, the starlet who was described as a ‘special player’ by Elliott Bennett on Twitter, had made four Premier League appearances for the Reds this season.

This is a hugely welcome sight to Kopites everywhere.

Injuries have once again caused issues at Anfield this term and welcoming back Elliott ahead of schedule would be a boost to the ranks.

Albeit it’s unlikely the £13.5million valued teenager will be seen back in competitive action for a number of weeks yet, this is undoubted a step in the right direction.
